Educational Resources, Solid Infrastructure
It’s one thing to promote economic growth, and another thing altogether to have the vision and resources to achieve it. Fortunately, Union County has both. The region is ideally situated and home to leading innovation and research centers in some of the most progressive industries within the global business sector—Biosciences, Automotive Research, Advanced Materials, and Renewable Energy, to name a few.
The county is fed by a healthy, skilled workforce and strategic network of institutions for higher learning. Nationally recognized colleges and universities in the area include University of South Carolina, USC Union, USC Upstate, Clemson University, Furman University, UNC Charlotte, and Winthrop University. The state also supports a comprehensive statewide technical college system: Spartanburg Community College and Greenville Technical College are part of the 16 college network providing industry-specific workforce training that supports the burgeoning global economy.
A Vision for Higher Education: The Advanced Technology Center
Completed in 2009, the Union County Advanced Technology Center houses technical programs through Spartanburg Community College and academic courses through the University of South Carolina at Union. Spartanburg Community College shares the facility in a partnership with the University of South Carolina-Union, which offers general education courses in the building for students to take as they fulfill transferable academic requirements for colleges and universities in the area.
